On December 3rd, 2009 Rob Bliss was hired by Wood TV 8 with the title “Social Media Event Planner.” Pertaining past Social Media experiences with Mr. Bliss I contacted the Manager of WOOD TV 8 with the following response:

Rob Bliss Experiments

It has come to my attention you’ve recently hired Rob Bliss for his Social Media Expert skills. Although Mr. Bliss appears to have a very excellent Social Media presence, there are some things you do not see. Why do you not see these? Because Mr. Bliss deletes comments that are par or unsatisfactory from his event pages, fan pages, and personal wall.

On September 29th following the 100,000 Paper Airplanes art prize venue, which I attended, Rob Bliss invited me to be a fan on Facebook to vote for his event. On this events page I simply said, “Although the concepts of your event were good, it was not your best Rob Bliss Experiment.” I used no vulgar words, no discrimination, and even applauded Mr. Bliss for his excellent past events. However, minutes later the post disappeared. Thus, I re-posted the comment. Again the post disappeared and then I posted it once more appending, “Please stop deleting this comment” to the end.

Minutes later I received a very unprofessional and unpleasant private Facebook message which to this day has made a distaste for myself against Mr. Bliss. The conversation is as follows:

Rob Bliss on September 29 at 10:41am:
I apologize but negative comments are deleted because then it pisses off people who support me, etc. and turns into a flamewar and I have no interest in having that on my facebook stuff, any issues you have with the events can be directed towards me personally though

Daniel Slaughter on September 29 at 12:13pm:
I simply stated that I didn’t feel it was your best event. I do appreciate what you’re doing for the city, but at what point do opinions not matter? Any piece of art will have criticism, the least you could do is accept this and take it with an open mind. And furthermore, I would appreciate it if you took a more professional approach to your “business.” Using words such as “pisses” is not very couth.

In a professional Social Media setting I cannot see any successful company taking forth an individual to conduct this line of professionalism. Mr Bliss’ inept ability to handle negative criticism is quite questionable. I personally feel anything WOOD TV 8 puts on their Social Media pages to henceforth be bias and lacking an even blend of criticism. And, is that not what the news is all about?

Please do what you will with this information, however as it currently stands WOOD TV 8 has made a horrible mistake in hiring this individual. I have always appreciated the content and material you have put forth in the news, but as long as Mr. Bliss is employed by your station I will not be watching it anymore.

Will WOOD TV 8 take my experiences into consideration? Have they ever produced anything worthy of news? Probably not.

Daniel Slaughter

Now, I don’t mean your average run of the mill fatty fats, but instead those kind of people who are making themselves naturally awkward by wearing inappropriate clothing, or eating things that just are not helping their cause. The website is 100% user-submitted, so without your help it will not succeed. If you ever find an awkward situation in a public location where someone just deserves their picture taken, do it. And then submit it to the website!

Last week I went on a cruise from January 12 through January 16th. The cruise line was Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). Last year I went on a Carnival in the Caribbean and I much more enjoyed that company for multiple reasons:

Carnival had cheaper drinks ($6 compared to $9)

On Carnival you always had the same waiter/waitress and it became a personal experience that was more and more fun every night

NCL charged for the more fancy restaurants ($10/$15/$25), although the “Main Dinning Halls” were always free

Carnival always had new things every day on the agenda; NCL seemed to be very repetitious and I felt as though I did the same thing every night

When we were on the islands nothing was happening on the NCL cruise ship; with Carnival they always had things going on

Now, I cannot say everything was bad about NCL. Here are some things I did enjoy:

2 for 1 Martini Drink specials from 6-8pm.

Very nice employees, but so did Carnival

A little pink couch in my room; I didn’t have that with Carnival’s inexpensive room… but I suppose that could depend on the ship?

When the weather was horrible on the 3rd day (40 degrees) and they couldn’t dock at Great Stirrup Cay they moved us to a place in the ocean that was mid-80s and beautiful

Here are some pictures I took while on the cruise:

The commercial’s exact text reads as follows: “Its finally here. New always Infinity is the first pad with infinicell. An uber absorbent material that can hold 10 times its weight, which means your heavy days are going down. Always Infinity; have a happy period.”

For those of you that do not know, the word uber is commonly used by geeks to describe something of the highest authority or dignity in a determined category. It is actually a german word which can be best described by its wikipedia article.

I voted today. While I was waiting in line for my 45 minute ordeal a drunk Bum and his significant other came storming into the room. They did not wait, or acknowledge the fact there was a line but went straight to the front and said, “I want to Vote for Change, I want to Vote for Obama!” Of course someone tells him he needs to go to the back of the line, which is where he came in. So he does. While this is going on his significant other starts asking people for food. Of course someone in the crowd of 40+ people hands her a couple granola bars, and she then proceeds to go to the back of the line too.

They give the man the little name card, he fills it out, and then hands it back to them. They then proceed to ask him for his valid photo ID. He pulls out a stack of condoms, flops them on the table, and then hands them his fishing license. Since, at least where I live, a fishing license isn’t a valid type of photo ID they tell him this will not work. He then assures them he got it two days ago, and that it will work just fine. Of course by now they’re kind of sick of his antics and ask him to fill out the affidavit on the back of the voter registration card. So he does, and hands it to the woman. She then tells him he cannot vote here, as he’s in the wrong precinct. Now, I’m pretty sure this smelly intoxicated bum doesn’t have a car (or a valid drivers license), so who knows if he ever voted. Oh well, at least that goes to show you that if a drunk Bum can remember to vote, so should you! Vote!

So, for those of you that do not know I stopped my cereal diet. It wasn’t because I couldn’t have done it, it was because I went to the doctors last Monday. Come to find out cereal has a lot of salt in it (at least when you’re eating 8 servings). Now, that typically wouldn’t be a problem if my blood-pressure wasn’t 168/88 (yeah, you can say it, “damn”).

They told me to cut back on my salt, so I have been. I reduced my salt intake to less than 250mg (that’s about 10% of your recommended daily value). That has been probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Today I went to the doctors again for my checkup after being on the medication for a week they put me on. Come to find out it isn’t working as well as they’d like (its now 148/80). So, they put me on a stronger dose with some special drug-amplifier stuff in it.

They told me today that if I wouldn’t have came in last week I would have probably died. His exact words were, “It looks like you came in for something not related, but instead we saved your life.”

Some people (Eric) were concerned about me dropping my salt intake so low. I asked my doctor if it was safe to eliminate salt completely from my diet, it is. The American Heart Association recommends somewhere between 0 and 1000mg per day. The recommended daily value on food nutrition labels goes off of a 2400mg scale, which means I’m peachy-keen. I also asked if I could drink alcohol with my pills, I can. The only problem is drinking too much/often will also cause high-blood pressure problems.

He highly suggested (pretty much demanded) that I exercise. So, I may take him up on that and start doing so. I guess, if it’ll save my life, I’ll do it.

Along with that I got a computer magazine that I quickly disposed of. Under that magazine was a hard envelope containing my diploma. It’s a good feeling to know that I did truly graduate (and you all doubted me)!

Right now I’m putting together some ideas for a couple website proposals. I’ll fill you in with more details when I get something out there.
